Tonight I attended a public meeting about plans for the expansion of 
Weston-super-Mare, a local town. One of the pannel had previously stated 
that the percentage of "out-commuters" (those commuting from Weston to 
other places) would be significantly less. 

When they were asked just what this meant in absolute numbers, given that 
there would be a massive increase in population, they replied that 
'Because there will be a very significant increase in the working 
population and more jobs for them in Weston-super-Mare the percentage will 
be lower so the actual number of out-commuters will remain the same - 
which is of course a reduction'.

At that point the audience decended into laughter while the speaker just 
looked bemused!
