Hey everyone - long time no see.

First of all existing members (not you, freshers), make sure
you renew your membership to SUCS as we get rid of old accounts
in December! You don't want to lose all your data, websites
and virtual machines so head over to https://sucs.org/join and get
your membership renewed. Once you've done that, you're sorted. You
don't need to worry!

Where have we been?

That's actually a really good question. SUCS has been really
quiet this year. We've been going through a lot of changes
internally with how we manage things. This inherently slows us
down and means we haven't been very active recently. But that's
all about to change!

Elections and stuff

We run our elections for the Executive Committee based on the
calendar year (due to some quirks of us predating the SU). And
it's getting near that time. We have a few positions that are open
this year.

President - oversees the operation of the society and it's
executives.

Treasurer - money, money, money! You deal with where our money
goes.

Secretary - deals with the day to day things. Sorts out
memberships and things like that.

Publicity - you're the social media guru! You will spend all
day on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and everything else in
between.

Events - our new position! Your job is to organise the
hackathons, meet ups and most importantly; Fresher's Fayre!

First years are more than welcome in any of these roles!
(I was first year when I became President)

Like tech? Of course you do!

We also have a load of non-executive positions, known as our
admins. You run the technology that keeps the society alive.
Anyone with experience in programming, Linux and other open-source
software is the ideal candidate. It's really easy to become an
admin. Just email admin@sucs.org then we'll make a decision with
what to do.

Next steps...

You will get an email in the next week or so explaining in a lot
more detail what all of this is about and how to be put forward
for elections. If you think that someone who isn't currently a
member may be suitable - get them to sign up now as they MUST be
a member for at least 14 days.

Anyway, you'll have more information about this in the next few
days. If you've got any questions in the meantime - feel free to
email exec@sucs.org
with any issues you may have.

Thanks!
