A VOTE OF THE AU IS ABOUT TO TAKE PLACE<br>

THAT WILL CHANGE THE SPORT AT SWANSEA UNIVERSITY.<br>

THIS WILL AFFECT ALL STUDENTS SO PLEASE TAKE ACTION <br>

Current Situation<br>
<br>
The Athletic Union cannot continue to function in the way that it currently does. The AU is delivering beyond its means, falling under extreme financial pressure and not possessing many of the staff resources that other universities enjoy. To ensure the Athletic Union's sustainability a year long investigation has been conducted to see if a more effective, sustainable and financially viable body can be developed.<br>

Our Plan<br>
<br>
We hope to position Swansea University sport between both the Sports Department and the Students Union. This move would combine the benefits of the professional structure of the sports department whilst retaining a strong student led voice and the element of social sporting events. The idea is to benefit from the obvious advantages of both departments<br>
<br>
The New Structure<br>
<br>
Staffing Structure - Retaining a Sabbatical and Ents representative but also benefiting from a full time professional sports administrator. Clubs will benefit from administration of Private Accounts being handled by the Students Union Finance Office and members of staff being available for assistance. The democratic committee structure of the Athletic Union will remain<br>
<br>
Funding - Block grant is used for BUCS competition and competitive sporting costs with all Wednesday evening funds would being raised and ring-fenced within the SU for the sole provision of sport in Swansea<br>
<br>
New Brand - The name for sport in Swansea, its logo, branding and mascot will be created whilst ensuring the delivery of sport at the University would be professionalised. The current committee structure will remain and the sports related staff will still be accountable to the Captains<br>
<br>
Year Long Transitional Period - A year of trouble shooting to allow the smooth transition into the new organisation<br>
<br>
Student Sport - Fixtures will still be played, Varsity will still be arranged, the whole idea is to make the changes to the structure so that the student facing operations only change in a small way to allow a more effective system<br>
<br>
Summary<br>

The AU believes that these steps need to be taken in order for sport at Swansea University to remain competitive, funded and enjoyable for all those that want to participate. The entire of the AU's executive structure advocate this proposal<br>

THE VOTE<br>
<br>
TO ENSURE THAT SPORT CAN CONTINUE AT ITS CURRENT LEVELS NEXT YEAR THIS PROCESS MUST BE COMMITTED TO. WE NEED ALL MEMBERS TO VOTE ON A REFERENDUM SO THAT THE TRANSITIONARY PERIOD CAN BEGIN.
