[Hiking] Run for the committee! AGM next week

Hello all,

In case you are unaware next Tuesday 16th February the club will have its
Annual General Meeting. This meeting is very important and all members are
encouraged to attend. In this meeting you will get to hear about the
running of the club, raise any issues or ideas about the running of it,
and most importantly vote on the new committee.

If you are still with us in the next academic year then you are eligible
to be on the 2010/2011 committee (Feb '10 - Feb '11). We have our
elections in February so that the old committee are still around while the
new committee settle in, to give advice and teach the positions. Being on
the committee is very worthwhile; it should enhance your student
experience and you can influence the running of your hiking club. If you
are still here next year definitely give it some thought.

The positions are:
Chairman
Organise and chair committee meetings, keep track of everything, general
responsibility, and many little jobs.

Vice Chairman
Look after and distribute kit and maps every walk. Book our transport. Be
second in command and take over if chair is absent.

Treasurer
Look after the club funds, pay for walks, accommodation etc, keep track of
the financial situation.

Secretary
Take minutes at committee meetings, book accommodation, and check pubs are
open after walks.

Social Secretary
Organise and plan the socials.

Publicity Officer
Send emails for the club, keep members up to date with events and general
publicity.

Webmaster
Update and maintain the website, upload walk and social photos to gallery,
also look after the mailing list.

Every committee member has to attend a committee meeting each week and
gets input on all other aspects of the club (eg walks!) as well as their
specific jobs. You can run for any position although committee experience
is recommended for the position of Chairman.

If you would like to run for a position you will need to be nominated by
two hiking club members. You can get nominated at any of our events this
week; the bowling social tonight (meeting in Yates at 7pm), sign up on
Wednesday and Friday, or Sunday's walk. You can also be nominated during
the meeting before the elections if you decide last minute.

Details of location and time for the AGM will follow soon but it should
take place early evening. After the AGM we will also have our pancake
social at 90 Marlborough road since it's Pancake Day.
