Hi guys!

The weather for this Sunday is currently forecast to be fantastic and we have an equally fantastic walk to go with it. Until today I had not finalised the route, having now done so I have decided to re-classify the walk as grade B1.
The walk is approximately 10 miles but with very little ascent because we will be starting at a height of 500m and the highest point on the walk is around 600m. We start at the viewpoint on top of Hirwaun common where the A4061 traverses the ridge to connect the Cynon and Rhondda valleys. From here we will follow the ridge through the forest and eventually descend via one of the many waterfalls in this area (Melincourt falls) to finnish our walk at Resolven. If the weather remains as god as currently forecast this will be a stunning walk. :)

Next Saturday (16th October) we're off to Pen Y Fan which is the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons, if the weather is clear for this walk there will be views deep into mid wales.

Come and add your name to the list at our signups every Wednesday and Friday 12.30 - 1.30 in JCs if you would like to come to either of these walks. If you miss Fridays signup then there should be space on the coach for you to turn up on Sunday morning but please text me on 07533973055 so that we know you're coming. Just a reminder that we pick up at the following times; Uplands Spar bus stop 09.00, Student village 09.05 (under the footbridge opposite Toby Carvery), Fulton House 09.15. Remember to bring food, waterproof, warm clothing and suitable footwear, also please remember to bring you AU card if you have not yet joined the club or we have not seen your card yet!

This Tuesday is our equipment night, Blacks and Millets are opening specially for us and their trained shop
assistants and the club committee will be on hand to give advice about
kit. The two shops have a large range of hiking gear and this is your
chance to grab a bargain on any outdoor gear you may need for the
coming year, they sell everything from boots and rucksacks to vacuum
flasks and water bottles.
Please note that as our walks start to go into more mountainous ...regions
the committee will become more strict on the kit worn on hikes -in
particular footwear due to the high risk of ankle related injuries when
walking in these areas, the equipment night is a great opportunity to buy walking boots
at a discount price :) We also recommend buying a waterproof jacket if
you don't have one already!
If you don't know where these shops are then you can meet us at 5.30pm outside Fulton House and we'll take you there, otherwise meet us down there from 6pm. All purchases will be given a 15% discount and I believe this will also apply to items already at sale price.
Afterwards we will probably head to a suitable watering hole for a drink :)

Hope to see you all soon!
Chris :)
