Here's something that could only have happened in the 1940s. One of our 
valued mailing list members has sent us this
sign which reportedly hung in the Pentagon during World War II:

'All officers wishing to take advantage of the secretaries in the typing 
pool should report to Room 401 to show evidence
of their need.'

Ah, the perks of being an officer.
