Hi everyone,
The thanks
=======
Firstly, a big thankyou to everyone that came to the LAN gaming event
and to everyone who helped out with it. It was our first LAN event,
and we were somewhat testing the waters/working out how to do things
as we went along. Despite some technical problems, it was a great
success and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves (I think they did).
We're looking into hosting another, possibly after easter, and we'll
let you know if and when that happens. If you have any suggestions for
ways we can improve future events, please let us know - either by
e-mailing games at sucs.org or by posting on the forum at
http://sucs.org/forum.
The reminder
========
Secondly, I'd just like to remind you all about tomorrow's SUCS
Lightning Talks. These are a series of lightning fast talks (roughly
10 minutes apiece) by SUCS members for SUCS members. They're taking
place in Kier Hardie Room 248, at 6pm tomorrow (Tuesday 20th). We
currently have talks happening on (amongst other things):
- "LaTeX" by James Kilick
- "Avoiding Procrastination" by James Frost
- "Why pyBackPack Sucks" - by Andy Price
- "The Wonderful World of NXT" - by Sean Handley
- "Something To Do With My Research" - by Dave Arter
- "3D Programming with DarkBASIC" - by Jean van Mourik
- "A Beginner's Guide to UNIX Commands" - by Nicholas Corlett
- "Music, Media, & DRM" - by Chris Elsmore
- "An Introduction to MythTV" - by Chris Jones
- "Power Management in Linux" - by Sitsofe Wheeler
As you can see, we've got quite a few people planning to speak now,
and it's still not too late if you've got something you want to talk
about (and you can prepare it in time). It'd be best if you could let
us know in advance, by e-mail (exec at sucs.org), although I expect we
might have some last-minute talkers who'll tell us on the night.
So please come along - it should be a good night!
James Frost
