Hullo everyone!
Some of you may have noticed on our walks programme that the second walk back after Easter is a sponsored one. The idea is to raise as much money as possible for the Michael Blakey Memorial Fund. This fund is aimed at founding a centre in memorium of Michael Blakey: an ex-Swansea student killed in India last year - He was also a member of the Hiking Club while at Swansea. The centre will aim to carry on his aid work by providing healthcare and support for the poor and homeless in the Kangra Valley, India. This is an extremely worthy cause and one well worth supporting.
http://www.justgiving.com/MichaelBlakey More details of the charity may be found here. If you cannot make the walk I would encourage to make a donation.
People will be sponsoring you to walk the 22 miles from Rhossili back to Mumbles. This makes the hike C,1 grade. Having said that, we will be starting early in the day and the light will last: everyone can participate! We will probably split into groups so that you will be walking with people of your own ability. If anyone feels that this feat isn't possible, 25 people did it last year: it can be done :-) This walk will take you the length of Gower, allowing you to take in all the beautiful scenery in one day.
People wishing to participate should sign up before Easter and collect a sponsorship form. This will give you the Easter holidays in which to find sponsors. The club will collect the sponsorship after the walk and send the money to the fund.
I hope as many of you as possible will support us,
Alex
